Only 10 weeks until my 41st marathon, the Vienna marathon! Here’s my recap of training (and life in London):
Monday: Rest day from running. I had a big mileage week the week before and was due for a rest day. After work, I did do day 3 of Iron Strength, which was glutes focused + core on Peloton
Tuesday: Ready to run again; I did 8 miles with a workout: warm-up, 10 min tempo, 5 min jog, then 5x(3 mins hard with 90 sec jog recovery).
The week started a little frosty (0C or 32 F) but by the end of the week, it was 50F/10C.
After work, I joined a few colleagues to see a musical called “& Juliet.” It’s a reimagined take on the Romeo & Juliet story, where Juliet doesn’t kill herself but rather moves on and finds her confidence without a man- all set to pop hits from the 2000’s! It was SO fun, especially for someone who grew up with that music. I recommend seeing it, as its on its way to NYC now and then probably a US tour. One of the colleagues that I went with had seen it FIVE times she loved it so much.
Wednesday: The musical wasn’t done until after 10 pm and then I had to get the tube back to Hampstead- a later night for this early bird! It was tough getting out of bed early, but I managed 5 easy miles before work. Really wanted to snooze, as I rarely stay up that late during the week!
My 5 mile route is a hilly one- it includes Primrose Hill and Haverstock Hill.
It’s funny how pictures of hills never look that steep, do they?
Thursday: wfh day! I waited until the sun came up (worked for a bit beforehand instead) and then did my longer workout: warm-up, then 3×12 min at faster than goal marathon pace with 3 min jog in between, cool-down for 10 miles total. The temperature was about 2 degrees Celcius around just below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, which was great for running in my opinion!
After work, I completed day 4 of Iron Strength, which was a full body workout.
Friday: Another wfh day, 7 easy miles before work, then some core + barre + stretching on Peloton
Saturday: Long run day! Dustin decided to join me for the full 18 mile long run.
We ran down the canal to Victoria Park and back. Overall I felt pretty good, though ready to be done by the end!
I bought a pair of the Tracksmith Eliot Runners, though I think they’ll just be a casual sneaker vs. a running shoe. I like them, but not sure about running in them…
So clean now, but I am doubtful I can keep them this white living in London!
Saturday night, we went to a short little concert at the Southwark Cathedral, where a string quartet played Taylor Swift songs in candlelight. It was lovely!
We went to a pub beforehand, but didn’t have a ton of time so I went with this little 1/2 pint mini-beer. The perfect size!
Sunday: I’m about to head out for a run with Dustin and Ruth, we’re planning for 7 miles. Then we have a birthday brunch/lunch for my college roommate Carolyn (I mean “uni” friend, if you’re British 🙂 )
Summary: 55 miles of running, 2 Iron Strength sessions, core on Peloton
In dog news, last Sunday, we took the pups to Buckingham Palace and then a walk through Green and St. James parks. They got a lot of attention!
They also wanted to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s day!
Well, that’s a wrap! I’m linking up with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner; check out their blogs to connect with other fitness bloggers for workout ideas and inspiration!
